Dambana Filipino Shrine

Dear Friends and Kababayans,

Hope you are having a great summer.  It is this time of the year where the kids enjoy playing with water on the fountains, beaches and rivers.  The sunny weather makes us tend the garden more, smell the flowers, play in the parks and have some fun. Some enjoy hiking, walking and meditating specially to the serenity atmosphere of the Grotto.

After the successful dedication of the Dambana, The Filipino Shrine at the upper level gardens at the Grotto last year, Fr. Jack was very kind to offer us another opportunity to gather our kababayans in the metro area to hold another celebration this year in honor of our three icons inside the shrine.  The core team came up with the Dambana Festival as a name for the event and this will start our own tradition.  On Saturday, August 2nd, we will celebrate the First Annual Dambana Festival at the Grotto.  The festivity will start at 2:00 PM with a Living Rosary, Celebration of the Mass at 3:00PM, followed by a Refreshment and Cultural Presentation.  Kindly click this http://filcomevents.blogspot.com/ for detailed information.  It is greatly appreciated if you pass on the information to your families and friends.  There will be 50 plus children (7-12 years) and teens participating in the Living Rosary coming from NE, NW, SE, SW and Salem .  We encourage your children to be part of this wonderful event.  There will be a rehearsal on July 25th at 2:00 PM at the Grotto.  Below are the contact persons for each region in the Portland Metro area if your kids want to participate.

As for the youth and the young adults, we encourage them to be part of the mass at 3:00 PM.  The Youth for Christ’s Choir and some youth from different parishes will lead the assembly with joyful singing.  The choir practices will be held on Thursdays, July 16th and 30th at 7:00 PM at Holy Trinity Parish.  The young adults will proclaim the readings and will serve as Eucharistic Ministers and Ushers.  We need more participants, so if you could help us, that will be great.  Kindly provide us with the names of the participants and their contact information.

On the side note, Ken Canedo is promoting his new book, “Keeping the Fire Burning” and will have a book signing this Sunday at Holy Trinity.  For more information, please click this website: http://filcomevents.blogspot.com/2009/07/ken-canedo-new-book-keeping-fire.html .

Do you have spare car at home?  Fr. Tony Ong, the Filipino Chaplain at St. Vincent is in need of a car to get around the area and to effectively minister our community.  If you have one, kindly send him an email to afbong@yahoo.com .

Our newly ordained Priests, Fr. Cary and Fr. Maro came back last July 6th from the Philippines after celebrating their Thanksgiving masses in their home parishes.  Fr. Cary said, “It was great to be home and to celebrate my Thanksgiving Mass in my home parish. It was indeed a moment of grace for me. “   They expressed their gratitude to everyone who attended and gave assistance in their ordinations and thanksgiving masses last June. Now, they received their new assignments to serve the parishes in the Archdiocese of Portland.  Fr. Cary is serving at the Sacred Heart Parish in Medford while Fr. Maro is serving at St. Mary’s Parish in Eugene .  Welcome back to both of them and kindly continue to pray that they will serve their new parishes well and minister to their parishioners with loving and joyful hearts for the greater glory of God.
